Abstract
This study determines export competitive advantages for Vietnam's canned tuna products through Balassa's comparative advantage index from 2007 - 2023. Also, it identifies export competitive advantages by using Michael Porter's diamond model. Research shows that Vietnam has a relatively high comparative advantage in the canned tuna export sector. The factors that create Vietnam's competitive advantage are the ample domestic tuna resources; Abundant, experienced, and cheap local labor resources; has the world's leading tuna processing and export capacity with modern product processing technology, meeting market requirements; Exchange rate management policy is beneficial for exports; As a highly open economy, the signing of trade agreements has helped Vietnam's tuna exports enjoy preferential tariffs in many vital markets in recent years. However, Vietnam's tuna industry still faces many difficulties that are typical of a developing country, which is associated with backward fisheries. To maintain export competitive advantages and enhance its position in the world market to improve efficiency and sustainable development, Vietnam needs many reforms to fisheries in general in the coming time.
